First Aid Safety Tips from St. John's Ambulance

Spring waters run deep — take extra care

(NC)–Each spring babbling brooks can become swollen, raging rivers, flushed with spring run off water. Even the most experienced outdoors enthusiast can fall to the perils of fast-moving, cold water. St. John Ambulance, Canada’s leading provider of first aid training and products, stresses prevention to avoid catastrophe.

Never leave children unattended near open water.
Wear proper clothing to suit the elements. Waterproof boots will keep feet dry and warm.
Never try to cross a swift-moving stream, especially if you can’t see the bottom clearly.
If you do get wet, change into dry clothing immediately.

Spring run-off water is often very cold. Being immersed in cold water can cause serious medical conditions like hypothermia. Quick first aid response can reduce the risk of this life-threatening condition.
