Wheels
Inn and Wild Zone Adventures™ for a "Wheelie Wild Time"
 Over
the years, when you have children, you talk to many parents about the
different aspects of raising children. And over the years we have
heard many parents mention "Wheels Inn", located in Chatham,
Ontario, as a great place for a family getaway with a Hotel and Indoor
Amusement Park all in one. We are now pleased to include this exciting
Hotel Fun 4 Kids Rated Destination and Recommended Family Attraction
as a www.hotelfun4kids.com
feature "Visits". This "Visit" allowed
us to experience all fun, adventure and attractions offered at
Wheels Inn and Wild Zone Adventures™, all under one roof. Wheels
Inn Wheels Inn's has 350 rooms
that are spacious and provide all the
amenities that parents look for when travelling with active
children.
A
signature feature of Wheels Inn is the Atrium. This 2 Story
"Great Hall" gives guests staying at the hotel a central
area that provides plenty of
activities and fun, just steps away from their room. The
Atrium has something for everyone and we took the opportunity during our
visit to enjoy the complimentary shuffleboard and four ping pong tables as
well as the billiard
tables placed around the Atrium. Our doubles ping pong games
pitted parents against the kids and throughout our visit the competition
raged in spirited singles matches until the ultimate victor was
declared. I don't want to brag, but as the only girl in the family,
victory was sweet!! We couldn't pass the tables without engaging in
a game. One of the most colourful features of this area is the Roller Maze.
Our boys would hop onto the roller
carts and chase each other while steering around the maze. Designed
for children 54" and below, the roller maze is also complimentary and
a lot of fun for kids. At the other
end of the Atrium, Wheels Inn's twin 100
Foot waterslides tower over the
indoor/outdoor heated pool, one of two pools at the
Hotel. As competition is a part of life in our family, the boys
found these slides perfect for head to head water slide races.
Hours of operation for the slides vary and when the slides are not in use
the splash pool is a nice area for younger children to play, under the
watchful eyes of their parents.
A
channel under the glass wall leads to the outdoor section
of the pool. Swimming out of doors under gently falling snow or
during the cooler months is something you just don't do every day. Aunt
Lil's Porch, a licensed eatery located at the centre of the Atrium, serves
up a variety of choices for breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner in a
casual setting. TIP: Check out the ice
cream vending machine. We just had to get ice cream just to see how
it dispenses Good Humour. Wheels Inn also offers a full
service dining room, The Tree Room, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner,
buffets and Sunday Brunch. The Stable Lounge is a casual sports bar
with light snacks open in the afternoon and evenings. Go to Wheels
Inn - Dining for more information. Atrium rooms are very popular with families as
they allow parents to keep an eye on their kids as they enjoy this great
facility, from the comfort of the room. Atrium Units have either a shared
balcony overlooking the courtyard or a patio directly on the Atrium floor
with a table and chairs set aside for each room's use. The hotel has a
complete fitness centre and spa facilities on site. For more detailed
information on the facilities at this hotel go to Wheels
Inn - A Hotel Fun 4 Kids™ Rated Destination. And after all that
fun, you will find out that it is just the beginning as you leave the
Atrium and enter Wild Zone Adventures™. Wild Zone
Adventures™ Wild Zone Adventures™ is Ontario's largest
indoor themed park and our visit brought us face to face with the
adventure. The Wild Zone Adventures™ theme is based on
the story of a 1930's Canadian boy, "Billy Wild"
and his friends as the find excitement and travel to Central America in
search of Billy's missing father. Amusement Park
 |
The
amusement park area of Wild Zone Adventures™ features 12 rides and
attractions that incorporate elements of the story and we made this part
of our exploration of the indoor park. We went from ride to ride as
if we were in the story. |
Click
here for a brief description of the rides and outline of the story. There
are height restrictions for the rides, however paying adults can ride with
children under the restriction. Tickets vary from 1 - 9 for each
ride and attraction. You can purchase books of tickets or as part of
a Wheels Inn package. Click
here for more information on ticket prices and height restrictions. If
you asked us to pick a favourite, we'd be hard pressed and have to say
that the Laser Rescue was our choice. We did it twice and since I
listened fully to the instructions (hint hint), I came in first both
times, with our youngest son second. Quite an interesting feat as
both my husband and our oldest son came in third and fourth respectively
each time. After the attendant fits you with
your laser tag vest and gun, first timers enter the storage area where the
rescue mission and instructions are explained. Then you enter the
laboratory and go to your respective stations. When the lights go
out the game begins as you dodge lasers and try to score points by hitting
your opponent's vest markers and the target at their station, all this while ducking
behind crates and ancient ruins so you don't get hit and disabled. When the game ends, each player
receives a printout of their points and a ranking. This attraction
is not to be missed as long as your children are old enough and not afraid
of the dark.
 |
I would recommend the the Flying Bus and
International Air Race rides for younger children and the Vertical
Officer's Transport Vehicle (ferris wheel) as a great family ride. If
you like getting dizzy there's the Whirling Dervish and if you are a
roller coaster fan, don't miss the Runaway Mine Train. |
Games
Reserve
We couldn't believe our eyes or contain the
boys when we entered the Games Reserve. With 5,000 square feet of
interactive video games, arcade games and games of skill, its hard to know
where to start. But start we did - at the token dispenser.
Games
require from one to four tokens (each token is worth $.25) and you can
change Canadian or US Dollars in the machines. Many of the games
also dole out tickets that can be used at the redemption centre for
prizes. Our favourites (again it's hard to pick) included:
-
"Rock 'n' Roll II" an arcade
game where you drop in tokens and a bar pushes them onto a tray until
they fall over the edge.
-
Interactive car races, snow mobiles and
more that allow you to race against other members of your family.
 |
And of course we can't forget the largest
confection machine display we have ever seen called "Sweet
Treasures". |
Click
here for more information on the Games Reserve.
Gorilla Golf
| Gorilla Golf - an 18-hole indoor jungle
mini-golf course with Sydney the Gorilla guarding the 18th hole.
Get a hole in one at Sydney and you get a free game - it's tough
though and if you miss, he'll let you know. |
 |
And
There is Still More!!! There is much more to the Wild
Zone Adventures™ than meets the eye, there is much more to do as well, including:
-
Zig Zag Adventures - one of the largest
indoor soft play structures in Canada has over 3,000 square feet mats,
tubes, slides, fireman poles, ball baths and climbing areas for children 12
years of age and under and a special toddler area.
-
A modern 24-lane Bowling Centre.
-
An air-filled balloon tent bouncer
known as the Bongo Air Bounce has jungle bouncing for children under 42" tall.
One day at Wild Zone Adventures™ is just not enough to take in all there
is to do. Wheels Inn packages offer a great deal with two nights
accommodations, selected meal buffets, unlimited admission for most rides including Zig Zag Adventures (limited admission
to Laser Tag, Mini-golf and Bowling) and more, for a great family vacation
or get-away. Mid-week rates are lower and it's a great time to take
in the adventure.
It's very easy to get to Wheels Inn - just an hour from London, Sarnia
and Windsor, at Exit 81 off the 401 and follow the signs. There is
also a VIA Rail Station in Chatham, not far from Wheels Inn if you want to
go by train. See VIA Rail Canada's Policies, Fares and Services for Children on the Train
for links and more information. We had a great time visiting Wheels Inn and Wild Zone
Adventures™ and are sure your family will too. www.hotelfun4kids.com"Visits
..." is an unique opportunity that encourages you to ask us
questions about the Visit location. Go to www.hotelfun4kids.com/contactus.htm
to submit your question and we will do our best to answer
it.
