Cedar Point Amusement Park
Home of the "World's
Best Steel Roller Coaster
Date: June 7, 2002
Located on a peninsula on the southern shores on Lake
Erie at Sandusky, Ohio, is Cedar Point Amusement Park, the
first destination to be featured in a new series of travel
articles designed to give visitors to www.hotelfun4kids.com
a first hand account of vacation destinations for families,
including tips and favourite features.
Among some of the reasons we choose Cedar Point Amusement
Park as the first article in the series is its distinction
of being voted as the "World's
Best Amusement Park",
with the most Roller Coasters of any park, adjoining water
park, mile long beach and the wide choice of accommodations
available on-site and nearby to suit every families needs.
All of these great features come together at Cedar Point to
make it a complete vacation destination.
Amusement Park
If you are a roller coaster fan, Cedar Point is the place
to go for an amazing array of roller coasters that just
can't be beat. With the opening of the Wicked Twister,
the count climbs to an unbelievable15 spread out
over 364 acres. Even if you aren't a roller coaster
fan, its fascinating just watching people ride these
incredible creations.
Just trying to guess how many roller
coasters you can see in this photo is a challenge!!
(See the end of the article for the answer)
There are roller coasters for just about every age level
too. Starting with the small coasters at Camp Snoopy,
designed for the younger set all the way up to the 310 foot
Millennium Force, with everything in between including the
world's first double twist vertical coaster - The
"Wicked Twister". See Cedar Point to Debut Record-Breaking Roller Coaster on Opening day of 2002 Season - Challenge Park and Soak City Water Park Attractions Add to the Fun - Sandusky, Ohio
for more information.
With a total of 68 rides, 26 just for
younger children, entertainment, refreshments, games and
more it's easy to see why over 3 million people visit the
park annually. See Favourites for best picks for age
groups from www.hotelfun4kids.com.
Water Park
Soak City, an 18 acre water park, is a great
way to spend some time cooling down when your at Cedar
Point. You can visit Soak City separately or purchase
a "Ride & Slide" admission that gives you
admission to both the Amusement Park and Water Park for two
days. See "Tips" for suggestions on a
great way to take advantage of the "Ride &
Slide" admission option.
Two lazy rivers, plenty of lounge chairs,
water slides and wave pool make Soak City a popular spot on
hot days. The layout of the water park is such that
there are plenty of lounge chairs available in every area
and it never feels really crowded.
While many water parks have a water play
area for younger children, Soak City at Cedar Point has
two. Choo-Choo Lagoon - you guessed it - a train
themed water area offers a sandy beach along with slides, a
water umbrella and a mini lazy river.
Tadpole Town, located in its own area across a bridge has geysers, water curtains, tire
swings, spray jets and mini-slides. As there is only
one access point to this water playground, its a great place
for parents to let little ones explore and keep an eye on
them.
There is also an entrance to the Beach
beside the water park.
Challenge Park
Located between the theme park and the water
park is a unique and separate park designed for thrill
seekers. Challenge Park offers go-karts, mini-golf,
arcade games and for the ultimate thrill the skycoaster
takes you on a flight that will leave you breathless.
Each attraction in Challenge Park is a separate
fee.

Favourite Features of Cedar Point Amusement Park:
We would have to say one of our favourite
rides was the Millennium Force for older children and
Adults. At 310 feet tall, it provides a spectacular
view of the park for a few seconds and an awesome ride that
is "Smooth" and very exciting. There is
usually quite a line up for this ride and we suggest that
you take advantage of the Freeway to the Front of the Line
program offered at the park that gives you a specific time
to ride this coaster, dramatically reducing the wait in
line.
|
For our eight year old, his choice was
the Woodstock Express - a train themed roller coaster in
Camp Snoopy.
|
For younger children Peanuts Playground
provides a respite for parents and a play area for kids that
can be explored at will.
At Soak City Water Park the Lily Pad Walk in Adventure
Cove saw the most attention from our kids. Older kids can grab hold of the netting and walk from pad to
pad. If kids aren't tall enough to reach the netting,
they can jump from pad to
pad.

Tips from www.hotelfun4kids.com
for visiting Cedar Point Amusement Park
1. Staying on site at Hotel Breakers -
closest to all three parks and right on the beach allows
families to enjoy the parks 1/2 hour before the general
public.
2. Enjoy the park in the evenings, especially if
you are staying on site. Its cooler, less crowded and fun to
enjoy the rides in the evening hours to.
3. If you intend to ride Millennium Force either go
first thing in the morning or use the Freeway to the Front
of the Line Program. The kiosk for the program is
located near the ride.
4. If you are going to go to both the amusement
park and the water park, save the water park for the
afternoon, the hottest part of the day.
5.
Go to the Beach. The beach is a beautiful
sand beach and gives you the feeling of a seaside resort
right on the shores of Lake Erie.
6. Don't line jump - if you do you may find
yourself ejected from the park.
7. You will get wet on Thunder Canyon, however
plastic bags and ponchos are for sale.
8. Purchase the "Ride & Slide" ticket
if you intend on visiting both the Water Park and Amusement
Park - price for this admission is for two days and is
cheaper than buying two separate tickets for each for only
one day.
9. Consider planning your visit for June or
September when the park may not be so busy but you still
have a chance for good weather. Also, Cedar Point has
a great Halloween special.
