Collingwood, Ontario
for our First Hotel Fun 4 Kids Vacation with Our new Travelling Pet - Chad - a
Bernese Mountain Dog.
Introducing
http://www.hotelfun4kids.com New PETS TOO! Rating
|
Many families have
asked us about travelling with pets when taking a family vacation. Pets
have become an integral part of families and many people do not want to leave
them behind when going on a holiday. Hotel Fun 4 Kids' new Travelling Pet
will help us explore and experience
hotelfun4kids.com "Visits..." that include a pet. We
will be travelling with a dog that will will eventually be a very large pet
- averaging around 110 lbs when fully grown that may present some extra
considerations as well. |
|
|
Chad, a Bernese Mountain Dog, chose us to become a part of our family -
and as Hotel Fun 4 Kids' Travelling Pet. |
New Pets Too Rating Chad has helped us to add a new Pets
Too! Rating. Resorts and Hotels accepting pets will now display
this new rating. Restrictions may apply and these should be
investigated prior to making any reservations. |

Not only were we travelling with a pet for this vacation, we were
travelling with a three month old puppy, presenting some extra travel
considerations. By adding Chad to our family we are determined to
take him on as many vacations as possible. To this end he must
be well mannered, trained to travel, use a a crate and adjust to many new
situations. |
|
|
We decided that a short vacation was the best way to start
his travel training. Since Tyrolean Village Resorts, located in
Collingwood, Ontario, had just added a Pet Park and was only a two hour
drive, this resort seemed like a good place to take Chad. |
We take Chad with us almost everywhere we go. He has become
very accostomed to travelling around
in the crate.
In fact he slept for the entire drive. The
crate also provided Chad with his own space for sleeping that is
familiar. |
|
|
Not only is Tyrolean Resort Kid-Friendly, but it is the first resort to
receive our PETS TOO! rating. The resort's chalet style
accommodations with complete kitchen, living and dining areas are very
comfortable for families travelling with a pet. |
|
One of the biggest changes that Chad presented to our vacation
experience was that we would need to adjust our dining out experiences.
Since this visit was in the summer, we couldn't leave Chad in a hot car
while we had dinner. |
|
For dining out we looked for restaurants that had
outdoor dining areas. Intrawest's new Blue Mountain Pedestrian
Village in Collingwood and nearby Wasaga Beach provided plenty of places
to enjoy dining out of doors on patios. Training included teaching
Chad to lay down while we ate dinner. |
|
Other alternatives were
take out and even hitting the grocery store to eat in - this is where
the kitchen facilities at our Tyrolean Village Resort Chalet became very
convenient. |
|
Tyrolean Village Resort also has it's own beach
on Nottawasaga Bay. We enjoyed a lovely picnic with Chad.
TIP: Chad has his own travelling food and water dishes. We also
brought along our own Poop and Scoop bags to clean up. |
|
|
Wasaga Beach Provincial Park, just outside of Collingwood
converted part of its beach to a Pet Beach recently. Now that
we have a dog travelling with us, we headed there and enjoyed a
great day playing in the waves with our new puppy. |
|
When Chad got tired, as puppies do, he took a
break under the umbrella. It was important to ensure that Chad
had shade and didn't get too hot on the beach so we brought the
shade with us. |
While apprehensive at first, once Chad got his feet wet, there
was no stopping him from playing in the waves. |
|
|
Many places are now adding pet parks and pet beaches that allow
families and pets to have a wonderful time together. Tyrolean
Village Resorts is one of the first resort that we have visited that
has a pet park. It's a great place to let dogs play. |
|
To help ensure that pets are welcome, it is important that pets
have manners and that owners clean up after their pets. We
recommend that dogs and their owners take obedience classes - as we
are doing with Chad. It is also a good idea to ensure that you
maintain control over your pet at all times. |
Adding a pet to our family was a major decision that took a lot of
thought. We had to consider that sometimes our pet would come with
us on a holiday and sometimes we would have to leave the pet behind.
On this
hotelfun4kids.com "Visits...", Chad's first, we had a great time
introducing him to travel.
