SKI LAKERIDGE -
New Snow Tubes a popular Addition to Resort Facilities
Ski Lakeridge, located
in Uxbridge, Ontario, 25 minutes Northeast of Toronto
added four snowtubing runs and 2 snowtubing lifts to its
facilities for the 2000-2001 skiing season.
Owner Rieky Peters was
pleasantly surprised at the popularity of the new
attraction at the resort saying "The Snow Tubes were
much busier than we expected".
Located to the west of
the ski runs, the snow tubes offer families an alternative
activity before, during and after hitting the slopes and
are great for non-skiers/snowboarders. While
snowboarders may wear their boots on the tubes, skiers
need to remove ski boots to enjoy the tubes.
In the 2000-2001 season,
for $12.50 tubers can take six runs with speeds "Up to 80 km per
hour on a cool night" says Craig, one of the managers
at Ski Lakeridge.
Guests are given a tube
(one per person) at the bottom of the tube lift and ride
it up the hill. Children under 1.1 meters (36
inches) must be accompanied by a parent but can ride down
the hill together holding onto each others'
tube.
Up
to four tubes can go down the run together. "It
is a little slower when you go down in a group"
mentioned one parent "but if you have young children
it works well".
The feeling of going down the hill is
quite different when you are a single rider. Kids
and adults alike enjoy the rush of speed and can even ask
for the attendant to spin them on take-off.
The snow tubing park is open weekends and
holidays at 11:00 am and closes at 10:00 pm on holidays
and Saturday. On Sunday the park closes at 6:00 pm.
For a different experience, try the Friday Night Snow
Tubing which runs from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
"The Snow Tubing Park was very busy
during the March Break" Craig commented.
Ski Lakeridge will also arrange group
outings by reservation for the Snow Tubing. This
would be a novel idea for a birthday party.
In addition to the Snow Tube Park, Ski
Lakeridge offers great day and night skiing and
snowboarding within a short drive of Toronto.
There are 20 Runs including a half pipe, a
Terrain Park (where helmets are mandatory) and all runs
are open for night skiing.
Rental equipment is available and you can
even rent harness for little children - see Winter Holidays - Ski Vacations
for tips on skiing with little ones using a harness.
