Earn Free Skiing or Snowboarding at Blandford This Season

Blandford, MA – September 27, 2002 – Low on funds for your skiing or riding this season? If you’d like to spend a little time on the slopes this fall BEFORE the snow flies, the Blandford Ski Area, located ½ hour from Springfield, MA, will give you a little free time on the slopes AFTER the snow has fallen!

Since its first winter on the snow in 1936, the ski area, owned and operated by the Springfield Ski Club, found that many members, friends and guests were interested in helping prepare the trails, lodges and tows for the upcoming season. In exchange they’d receive credit toward their membership (season pass), single day lift tickets or lessons. In this way, the club was able to minimize the pre-season labor cost and many families that may never have been able to afford to start skiing were able to fall in love with winter at Blandford.

Back in those early days, the big jobs may have been to clear a new trail, split wood for the fire or decide where to locate the new outhouse. Today, we need to spruce up the lodges, paint some buildings, do a little minor electrical repair, mount a few lights, cut some wood for the fire, clean the restrooms… Well, maybe it’s not all that different. If you think you might have skills or even just a strong back to loan us for a few hours, the club would be grateful and you’d earn some free ski and ride time.

To thank and compensate those who are able to come out and help, for every full day worked, they’ll receive a voucher for “Blandford Bucks” that can be used to purchase lift tickets, memberships, lessons, and tickets to club social events. Age 15 and older will earn $29 in Blandford Bucks. Age 10-14 (with adult supervision) will earn $13 in Blandford Bucks. October 6 & 20 and November 10 are the Sundays scheduled from 9am-4pm. We may add more dates depending on how much we get done on the scheduled days. If we do, it will be posted at www.skiblandford.org

A new incentive has been added this fall. Every time you work a full day, in addition to the Blandford Bucks described above; you will get a chance thrown in the hat to win a full membership in the Springfield Ski Club. This membership can be used by you, given to a friend or used next season. YOUR CHOICE! The more days you work the more chances you get!

Members, friends, guests or even folk who have never been to the ski area are welcome to help out. Simply come out to the ski area by 9am on the days listed above ready to work!
