Wiley's Woods at Great Wolf Lodge Combines Story-Telling, Technology And
Interactive Play to Create 'Live Video Game' for Kids and Families
KoalaPlay Group, the new commercial
play design and development division of Koala Corporation has completed
this year's first major installation with the recent opening of
"Wiley's Woods," a $4 million, 20,000 square-foot interactive
game attraction at Great Wolf Lodge in Wisconsin Dells, WI.
KoalaPlay Group was launched this year as a turnkey, full-services
provider that integrates Koala Corporation's three well-known,
industry-leading commercial play equipment subsidiaries: Delta Play
Company, SCS Interactive and Superior Foam, Inc. The new KoalaPlay
Group offers a comprehensive ability to conceive and create
family-friendly environments ranging from soft play structures to fully
themed play areas, water parks and Interactive BallPlay(TM) attractions.
"Wiley's Woods underscores the tremendous creative talent and
resource depth that are the foundation of KoalaPlay Group's ability to
design and build exciting, stimulating attractions for any size of
commercial enterprise," said Steven Wagner, Vice President of Sales
for KoalaPlay Group. "This unique project has raised the bar
in what malls, hotels, playgrounds, waterparks and other venues can
offer their customers to create a memorable and value-added family
experience."
Billed as a family-fun live video game, the four-story Wiley's Woods
combines storytelling, computer technology, physical play and
interactive problem-solving in a magical forest environment where
participants become "action heroes."
Inside Wiley's Woods, each player wears a computerized bracelet
transforming them in a "Creature Keeper" whose mission is to
collect points while caring for all of the forest animals, ranging from
butterflies to a temperamental lion.
Loaded with 25,000 oversized "berries" -- colored foam balls
-- the adventure weaves through four stories of gravity shoots, bridges,
nets, mazes, berry vacuums, hyper blowers, 65 game consoles and a
massive berry tipping bucket at the top of an enormous tree scoreboard.
Belching raccoons and purring lion cubs teach Creature Keepers to
strategize their berry harvest, as different creatures require different
berries.
In creating Wiley's Woods, KoalaPlay Group teamed up with psychologist
Denise Weston, a founding partner at Rhode-Island based Creative
Kingdoms and a highly respected expert in children and family play,
entertainment and related development. Weston originated the
live-action video game concept that incorporates KoalaPlay Group's
one-of-a-kind interactive play mechanisms.
"KoalaPlay Group was instrumental in creating a new and exciting
family fun venue where our guests are spending countless hours,"
said Curtis Brown, General Manager at Great Wolf Lodge.
"Family entertainment is why we exist, and Wiley's Woods has become
the centerpiece of our commitment to build attractions that create an
experience like none other."
