It's Back!! Cedar Point's 8th
Annual Holloweekends Returns. More Fun and Fright than Allowed by Law
SANDUSKY, Ohio, Sept. 8, 2004 – You have feared this day all
year. You have had it circled on your calendar since last fall. The mere thought
of all those ghostly monsters, scary haunted houses and scream-inducing rides
and roller coasters sends shivers down your spine. But there is no way to avoid
it. Cedar Point’s annual festival of fun and fright, HalloWeekends, is back!
The historic amusement park/resort makes the eerie
transformation into a Halloween haven by adding ghoulish decorations, wandering
monsters, mystifying magicians, spooky live shows, three thrilling haunted
houses, two fright zones, special areas just for kids and much more. Whether you
like your scares mild or wild, there is something for everyone at HalloWeekends.
Highlighting this year’s new attractions will be CarnEvil.
Located along the Wicked Twister midway, this carnival gone bad will be packed
with sideshow freaks, ominous clowns, creepy carnival workers and a load of
other surprises that materialize from the fog and darkness. CarnEvil will join
the Fright Zone and Werewolf Canyon as three places not recommended for those
afraid of the dark!
Magic will again abound at HalloWeekends as Chris Linn and
newcomer Tim Hill will wow and amaze guests of all ages. “Chris Linn’s
Magicomedy” will be presented at The Palace Theatre while “The Magic & Comedy of
Tim Hill” will be performed in the Centennial Theatre.
Also new for HalloWeekends will be “Lair of the Vampire,” a
terrifying haunted house. This gothic dwelling will be located on the Main
Midway near the Hofbrau restaurant and will feature wayward souls that defy
gravity! This is one haunted house NOT for the weak of stomach.
Last year’s hit, Werewolf Canyon, will be back bigger and better
than ever. This year the tables could be turned on the werewolf when he visits
the Three Little Pigs Market. But beware, before you make it there, you could
meet your own demise at the hands, or fangs, of the werewolf! (Guests must be at
least 48 inches tall to enter Werewolf Canyon.)
Not all of the attractions at HalloWeekends are designed to
scare. Kids will enjoy Camp Spooky, formerly Camp Snoopy. Charlie Brown, Lucy,
Linus and everyone’s favorite beagle, Snoopy, are dressed up and ready to greet
our little ghosts, um, guests. Kids will also delight in Halloween mask-making
and the Magical House on Boo Hill, a fun house just for them. Dancing Midway
Monsters, a Kid’s Costume Contest, PEANUTS Halloween Show, roving entertainers
and much more await children of all ages.
This year’s live entertainment options for HalloWeekends
include: “The Wizard’s Welcome” at the main entrance; “A Trio of Terror from
Edgar Allen Poe” in the Glassblower’s Arena; “The Witches of Witch Hollow” in
PEANUTS Playground; “Monsters Rock! Back from the Grave” in the Red Garter
Saloon; DJ Zombo; Gypsy Fortune Tellers, near the entrance to the Blue Streak
roller coaster; the King Dapper Combo (every Friday night at 8:30 p.m. and 9:30
p.m.); and much more.
Overnight guests can also get in on the fun by staying in one of
three haunted Hotel Breakers Jacuzzi suites. Two suites feature Halloween
decorations, coffin coffee tables, spells, potions, skeletons and things that go
bump in the night! Children will scream with delight in the “Great Pumpkin
Patch” suite. A welcome basket will await guests upon arrival, which includes
two HalloWeekends sweatshirts, four tickets for Friday night and two one-day
adult tickets. (Reservations are currently being taken at 419.627.2106.)
HalloWeekends will be held the final operating days of Cedar
Point’s 2004 season: Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 24, 25, 26 and
Oct. 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 and 31. During
HalloWeekends, Cedar Point will be open Friday nights from 6 to 11 p.m.;
Saturdays from noon to midnight; and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Friday
nights, certain rides and attractions will not be open. Top Thrill Dragster,
Millennium Force, Magnum, Raptor, WildCat, Iron Dragon, Blue Streak and Wicked
Twister will be in operation on Friday nights (weather permitting). The entire
park will be open on Saturdays and Sundays. On Sunday, Oct. 10, Cedar Point will
remain open until 10 p.m.
