Cool Kids Welcomes Kid-approved Superstars for WinterCity,
Toronto's Newest Winter Festival Running from January 30 - February 12, 2004
Toronto Special Events - WinterCity's Cool Kids Series is the perfect excuse
for Torontonians to bundle up their kids and celebrate winter in the city.
The series entertains the little ones at Yonge-Dundas and Mel Lastman
Squares with live stage show performances featuring some of the most amazing
and popular kid-approved superstar entertainers. The incredible guest list
includes The Kratt Brothers, Strawberry Shortcake(TM) and her friends,
Babar(TM) and the lovable residents of Sesame Street©. The Cool Kids Series
is free and runs each Saturday and Sunday between January 30 and February 8.
The Cool Kids Series at Yonge-Dundas Square, presented by Scotiabank,
launches with Creature Trail Adventures with The Kratt Brothers. Brothers
Chris and Martin Kratt have traveled the world searching out some of the
planet's most unusual wildlife on their wildly popular award-winning shows
Kratts' Creatures, Zoboomafoo and Kratt Bros. Be the Creature. The Kratt
Brothers are visiting Toronto to teach young families to care about our
planet and the creatures that they share it with. Everyone's favourite
leaping lemur, Zoboo from Zoboomafoo, will make a special guest appearance
to say hello. The call of the wild will kick off the afternoon with The
Toronto Zoo's Amazing Animal Show. Audiences can check out the excitement as
Zoo staff interacts with the furry and feathery Zoo residents and have all
their animal questions answered. Creature Trail Adventures with The Kratt
Brothers and The Toronto Zoo's Amazing Animal Show will take place on
Sunday, February 1 with shows starting at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Yonge-Dundas
Square.
Excitement continues at Yonge-Dundas Square with the 35th anniversary of the
ground-breaking television show, Sesame Street ©. Launched in 1969, Sesame
Street is the award-winning educational program beloved by children, trusted
by parents, and honoured with 91 Emmy Awards - more than any single
television show in history. WinterCity launches a very special anniversary
celebration with Sesame Street © Sing Along. The crowds can to sing along
with Bob McGrath, Elmo, and Grover, residents of the most-famous
neighbourhood in the world. Opening act, Kidz Kidding, will get the kids
hopping with their fun and interactive musical performance. Sesame Street ©
Sing Along takes place on Sunday, February 8 with shows starting at 11 a.m.
and 1 p.m. at Yonge-Dundas Square.
The fun doesn't end there. Enbridge Gas Distribution is sponsoring two
outstanding shows at Mel Lastman Square. The star of worldwide bestselling
books and award-winning TV series, Babar(TM) comes to WinterCity with the
Museum of Art Show. In his adventure, Babar tells the story of how he and
his wife Celeste turned an old train station into an art museum and helped
their curious children appreciate paintings of all kinds. After the show,
the kids in the audiences are invited to create life-long memories by
meeting with Babar(TM) at the stage. The Doug Barr Children Show will get
the kids singing and dancing before Babar takes the stage. Babar's(TM)
Museum of Art takes place on Saturday, January 31 with shows starting at 11
a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at Mel Lastman Square. Enbridge Gas Distribution will
also be offering a lunchtime BBQ where hungry audience members can enjoy
free hotdogs between noon and 2 p.m.
Mel Lastman Square turns into Strawberryland, the home of a spunky little
redhead girl named Strawberry Shortcake(TM). This lovable youngster makes a
berry special trip to WinterCity with her friends Ginger Snap(TM), the best
cookie chef in the world, and Orange Blossom(TM), who has a green thumb in
the orange grove. Audiences can help to create an enchanting patchwork of
song, dance and laughter. Strawberry Shortcake(TM) will make new friends on
her trip to Toronto with a special meet and greet at the stage after her
shows. Musical act Markus will start the show with a selection of songs to
help celebrate friendship. Strawberry Shortcake(TM) & Friends take the stage
on Saturday, February 7 with shows starting at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at Mel
Lastman Square.
Dare to forget the weather at the party hosted by the world's coolest winter
city. Toronto's newest winter festival, WinterCity, built on the foundation
of the long-running WinterFest, creates a new tradition of winter revellry.
Running from January 30 - February 12, 2004, this 14-day celebration gives
center stage to the city's renowned culture, creativity and cuisine. With
