SUNDAY BIKE DAY IN THE
CAPITAL REGION - OTTAWA
Every Sunday morning throughout the summer, 65 km (40 miles) of
parkways within the Capital Region are reserved for cyclists,
walkers, joggers and in-line skaters.
From 6 a.m. to noon, 40 km (25 miles) of Fortune, Champlain and
Gatineau Parkways will be closed to motorized vehicles. Also
closed to motorized vehicles from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. are the
following parkways: Ottawa River Parkway (9.5 km/6 miles),
Rockcliffe Parkway (8.4 km/5.2 miles) and Colonel By Drive (7.6
km/ 4.7 miles).
Cyclists, walkers, joggers and in-line skaters: the parkways
belong to you!
Family-oriented
- The Ottawa River Parkway: Along the south side of the
Ottawa River just west of downtown. The westbound lanes are
closed from the Mill Restaurant, near Portage Bridge, to Carling
Avenue (9.5 km).
- Colonel By Drive: East side of the Rideau Canal in the
heart of the Capital. Both lanes are closed from the Laurier
Bridge downtown to Hog's Back Road (7.6 km).
- The Rockcliffe Parkway:
Along the south side of the Ottawa
River just east of downtown. Both lanes are closed from the Canada
Aviation Museum to St. Joseph Boulevard in Orleans (8.4 km).
- The Gatineau parkways:
Both lanes of the parkway loop,
consisting of the Gatineau (north of Gamelin Boulevard), Champlain
and Fortune parkways, will be reserved for recreational users,
namely for cyclists, walkers and in-line skaters. Because of its
topography, the Parkway Network requires good physical condition
and a high level of skill; however, there are flatter routes
starting from Gamelin and Chelsea (40 km).
