Delta Air Lines Reopens Dusty's Dens(TM) for Summer Travel Season 2004
Offered in Six Airport Locations for Children Traveling Alone
Delta Air Lines' is reopening Dusty's Dens(TM)
beginning May 28 to assist children traveling alone during the summer travel
season. Dusty's Dens(TM) provide a safe and comfortable place for children ages
5 to 14, traveling alone, to relax between their connecting flights, or to wait
for the designated person(s) meeting them at their final destination. Children
visiting the Dens can enjoy refreshments, video equipment and reading materials
during their stay.
Dusty's Dens(TM) are located in six domestic airport locations -- Atlanta,
Cincinnati, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Los Angeles, New York (JFK), and Salt Lake City.
Dens are available during the summer travel season from May to September; and
during the winter holidays, usually from December to January. Dusty's Dens(TM)
generally are open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.; hours of operation
may vary by location.
Each of the Dens are closely monitored by Delta employees who supervise the
facility, track flight status and escort unaccompanied minors to and from their
flights.
"Dusty's Dens(TM) provide a convenient and reliable service to our customers
when their children need to travel alone," said Rich Cordell, senior vice
president, Delta Airport Customer Service. "Customers have told us that this
service is helpful and provides a level of comfort to both parents and
children."
Children ages 5 to 14 traveling alone must be accompanied by a parent or
guardian until they board the aircraft. Delta' requires a parent or guardian to
remain in the gate area until the plane takes off. Delta's services for
unaccompanied children needing to change planes or make a connecting flight
include accompanying them to the gate to ensure they board the correct flight.
Fees for this service are $40.00 for Domestic non-stop flights, $75 for Domestic
connecting flights, $60.00 for International non-stop flights and $90.00 for
International connecting flights. Please contact Delta Air lines to confirm
your child's reservation at 1-800-221-1212.
In 2003, Delta provided travel services to approximately 70,000 unaccompanied
minors during the summer travel season. For more information on unaccompanied
