SERVICES FOR CHILDREN ON CONTINENTAL
AIRLINES
Traveling with Infants
Incubation and Infants Under 7 Days Old
Continental does NOT accept infants in incubation or
infants under 7 days old as passengers on any flight.
Acceptance of Accompanied Children Under Two Years
Continental will accept one child under two years of age
traveling with a parent or an adult 18 years or older,
provided the child does not occupy a seat. If there are
two or more children under two years of age traveling with
the same passenger, only one of the children may travel as
a lap child. Any additional children under two years are
required to have a ticket, and pay the applicable
children's fare.
Infant Seats
Customers flying on Continental Airlines may use an FAA approved infant
seat. The infant seat must be used in an unoccupied
aircraft seat and cannot be held in an adult's lap. The
infant seat must remain properly secured to the seat at
all times, unless the passenger chooses to eventually
store the seat as a carry-on. Continental Airlines advises
that an infant seat cannot be used in an exit row, or in the row
immediately before or after an exit row.
Ticketing
If the infant seat is to occupy a customer seat, the seat
must be purchased. The published child's fare will apply.
Infants who are carried in an adult's lap do not require a
ticket for wholly domestic travel. An infant ticket is
required for international travel. International taxes
will be collected for all destinations outside of the 50
U.S. states. Infants who are over two years old are
required to purchase a ticket and occupy a customer seat
with a separate seat belt.
Infant Seating
For infants on all rows and seat sections, passengers
with infants cannot be seated in exit rows. There is also
only one lap infant allowed per seat section due to oxygen
mask constraints.
Bassinets
Continental
offers bassinets on select international/ transcontinental
flights for infants weighing 22 pounds (approx. 8.2 kg.)
or less. Bassinets should be requested at the time
reservation is made as quantities are limited.
Children's Meals
Infant* and Children's meals are available but must be
requested at least 24 hours before departure.
*Infant meals are available on selected international
flights only.
Video Games
The Boeing 777/767s are the most recent additions to
Continental's fleet and the world's newest jetliners. These
state-of-the-art aircraft raise the standard for
international travel and include an interactive Personal
Entertainment System for each passenger.
The system consists of a monitor and a handset that
serves as both an entertainment function control and a
telephone. In the first class cabin, the monitor is located
in the armrest console and the handset is in the armrest. In
the main cabin, the monitor is located in the seat back in
front of you with the handset located in the armrest. You
have the option to choose among six video games.
Parents should determine whether the available games are
acceptable for their children.

Continental Airlines recognizes that parents' most important concern is that
their child is protected and delivered safely to the correct
party. It is also Continental Airline's number one concern.
Continental Airlines hopes to create
a memorable experience for both parents and children that will be
pleasantly remembered long after the trip is completed.

The following information is provided by
Continental Airlines with respect to Children traveling alone:
Unaccompanied Minor Policy
Continental designates children from ages 5-14 as
unaccompanied minors when traveling without a companion of
at least 18 years of age. This could also include children
ages 15 - 17 traveling alone and for whom the
parent or guardian requests special supervision.
These young travelers must be booked by calling
Continental Airlines reservations
offices or a local Travel Agent.
Children under 5 years of age are not
accepted as Unaccompanied Minors. Unaccompanied minors ages 5-7 years
are accepted for
nonstop and direct flights only. Unaccompanied minors ages 8-14 accepted for nonstop,
direct and connecting flights.
Travel by an Unaccompanied Minor will not be allowed on a Continental flight
departing between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.
unless travel is on international flights, flights
operating out of Honolulu, or domestic flights of 2
hours or less. Unaccompanied Minors will not be accepted
for travel on the last connecting flight of the day to
their final destination, or if there is any possibility
of a missed connection.
Children traveling unaccompanied pay a full adult
fare.
An additional service charge is collected to cover extra
handling required when an unaccompanied child travels.
Please confirm this charge when placing your reservation.
Domestic Fee:
Domestic fees apply to travel within/between the U.S. (all
50 States), Canada and Mexico.
$30 one-way for nonstop flights and $60 one-way for connecting flights.
International Fee:
International fees apply to travel to/from the U.S. (all
50 States), Canada and/or Mexico to any other
international destination (including the U.S. Territories
of Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and Guam).
$60 one-way for nonstop flights and $90 one-way for connecting flights
The unaccompanied minor service charge may be paid
anytime prior to departure at a Continental Airport Ticket
Office or Continental Ticket Office facility. It may also be
paid at the time of check-in at the airport ticket counter.
In addition, Travel Agents may also collect the
unaccompanied minor service charges.
Currently, the service charge cannot be collected in
association with Continental's Ticket-by-mail service or
Electronic ticketing options offered through reservations or
while using any of the ticketing products on Continental
Airline's Web Site.
Special Information Required
An airline requires the following information in order
to accept an unaccompanied child for travel, and the best
time to provide it is when making the child's
reservation:
- The name of the person bringing the child to the
airport
- The home telephone number and address of this person
- The name of the person meeting the child
- The business and home telephone numbers and home
address of this person.
When the child arrives at the destination, the person
meeting the child is required to provide positive
identification to ensure that they are the person
indicated on the Young Traveler form that is attached to
the ticket jacket. For more information on the Young
Traveler Club go to Travel News: Continental Airlines' Young Traveler Club Ensures Children are Well-Looked After When Flying as Unaccompanied Minors
At the Airport
Continental Airlines advises that it is best to arrive at the airport approximately one
hour prior to departure time for Domestic flights and two
hours ahead of time for International flights. The Airport
Service Agent working the child's flight will verify the
information in the child's reservation or place the
information in the reservation if it's not already there.
In addition, they complete a Young Traveler form which is
paperwork that is attached to the child's ticket jacket.
Unaccompanied children are considered very special Continental
Customers, and they are invited to board ahead of other
Customers during priority or courtesy boarding. This extra
few minutes on the aircraft prior to everyone else
boarding provides the Flight Attendants with the
opportunity to:
- Personally greet the child
- Introduce the child to the cockpit, time permitting
(kids love this part)
- Take the child to their seat and assist with carry
on items
- Orient the child to the safety features of the
aircraft
- Point out lavatory locations.
A
Continental employee will escort the child onboard and
introduce them to the Flight Attendants. It's a good idea for a parent/guardian to stay
at the airport in the immediate gate lobby area until the
child's plane takes off. If the aircraft is delayed for
any reason, the child may become apprehensive and need reassurance that all is OK.
Continental employees are not allowed to administer
medication to a passenger. If your child has a condition
that requires medication, please consult with your
physician before making your reservations and follow the
physician's recommendations. The physician may be able to recommend a
different dosage for the day your child travels so that
medication is not necessary during the travel period or
suggest postponing or delaying the trip..
